Expiring refundable accommodation deposit approvals

Refundable accommodation deposit (RAD) approvals expire after 4 years. This page describes your options and how you can apply again for approval.

Your options

If your approval is about to expire, you can either:

  • apply for approval of the same amount
  • apply for approval of a higher or lower amount
  • let the approval expire.

When an approval expires, you can no longer publish or charge new or existing residents the previously approved amount. You will only be able to charge up to the maximum amount prescribed by the Aged Care Rules 2025 as you do not have IHACPA approval to charge above this limit.

Charging without approval

You must notify the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission if your approval has expired, and you have charged a RAD above the maximum amount.

The Commission will work with you on this matter.
