Date published: 14 March 2025
The National Hospital Cost Data Collection (NHCDC) Private Sector Report 2023–24 presents a summary of the admitted acute care data gathered for the 2023–24 financial year.
We received data from 139 in-scope overnight private hospitals, representing 74.9% of private hospital activity in Australia.
Key findings from the report include:
- sample separations increased by 2.2% compared to the previous year
- total sample costs increased by 5.9% to $12.2 billion, driven by higher activity volumes and an increase in the average cost per separation
- the total population-weighted cost increased by 5.6% compared with 2022–23, also reflecting growth in activity and higher average separation costs.
