Residential aged care sector invited to give feedback to help shape pricing advice

9 July 2026

The Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority (IHACPA) has opened a public consultation on the development of residential aged care pricing and costing advice to the Australian Government.

IHACPA provides annual pricing and costing advice for residential aged care and residential respite care to the Minister for Health and Ageing. This advice is underpinned by the pricing framework for residential aged care services, which is informed by stakeholder feedback received through public consultation.

Feedback from previous consultations has been used to inform this year’s focus areas, including residential respite care funding arrangements, cost collections and refinements to the allocation of administrative and care costs. IHACPA is also seeking feedback on the potential impacts of transitioning to the Aged Care Act 2024, as well as supplements and grants for specific care needs.

IHACPA’s Chair, Mr. David Tune AO PSM, encouraged stakeholders across the residential aged care sector to contribute to the consultation, noting the importance of capturing diverse perspectives.

We encourage everyone with an interest in aged care to share their experiences and views on residential aged care. This is an important step in ensuring our pricing and costing advice remains transparent, evidence-based and responsive to the needs of older Australians and the aged care sector.

Mr David Tune AO PSM

Feedback gathered from this consultation will inform the Pricing Framework for Australian Residential Aged Care Services 2027–28, which outlines the principles, decisions and approach used to develop pricing and costing advice to government.

The public consultation is open until 5pm AEST Friday 21 August 2026.
