Consultation now open: In-home aged care sector invited to help shape pricing advice

12 March 2026

The Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority (IHACPA) has opened a public consultation on the development of pricing advice for the Australian Government’s Support at Home program.

The consultation, open from Thursday 12 March to 5pm AEST Friday 10 April 2026, is key to ensuring IHACPA’s pricing advice on the Support at Home service list meets the needs of the in-home aged care sector and reflects the cost of delivering care.

The consultation covers many areas and seeks feedback on enhancing future cost collections, cost pressures experienced by providers and pricing adjustments, ensuring IHACPA’s pricing advice for the Support at Home service list is grounded in evidence.

IHACPA’s Chair, Mr. David Tune AO PSM, encouraged all stakeholders to contribute to the public consultation, noting the importance of capturing diverse perspectives.

We want to hear from as many voices as possible in the in-home aged care sector, from aged care providers, workers and peak bodies to older people, families, carers and the public.

Mr David Tune AO PSM

'Your feedback plays a vital role in shaping pricing advice that reflects the cost of delivering services to people from a wide range of backgrounds, life experiences and locations right across Australia. This includes people living in rural and remote locations, where service delivery conditions can vary significantly,' said Mr. Tune.

Feedback from previous consultations has also helped shape this year’s focus areas. This encompasses ways to strengthen future cost collections to better support participation, particularly from small providers and those who deliver services to people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and people with diverse backgrounds and life experiences.

The consultation also seeks input on cost pressures and supporting data required for delivering services to diverse groups. In addition, it explores the differences in provider cost pressures between the Commonwealth Home Support Program and Support at Home program.

Feedback gathered from this consultation will inform the Pricing Framework for Australian Support at Home Aged Care Services 2027–28, which outlines the principles, scope and methodology used to develop pricing advice for the Support at Home service list.

The public consultation closes at 5pm AEST Friday 10 April 2026.
