About refundable accommodation deposits
The maximum accommodation payment amount registered providers can charge a resident as a refundable accommodation deposit (RAD) or equivalent daily amount, without approval from IHACPA was $750,000 as of January 2025.
This amount is indexed to the consumer price index from 1 July each year and is published on the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing’s website.
When RADs need approval
Providers must apply to IHACPA for approval if:
- they want to charge more than the maximum accommodation payment amount as a RAD (or equivalent daily accommodation payment) for a room (or part of a room)
 - their current approval is expiring.

Approvals are valid for 4 years.
You must apply to IHACPA at least 60 days before approval to charge above the maximum accommodation payment amount can take effect.
Apply for RAD approval
The form and process to apply for a RAD is the same, whether you have applied for RAD approval before or not.
When completing an application, the most current application form published on our website must be used. Submitting older versions of the application form or incomplete applications will delay the assessment of your application.
