Non-admitted care costing study - data collection

The Independent Hospital Pricing Authority (IHPA) is currently developing a new classification for non-admitted care - the Australian Non-Admitted Care Classification (ANACC) - in response to the recommendations of public consultations in 2013 and 2014 on non-admitted care classification.

To inform the classification, IHPA needs more detailed and accurate costs than those currently available through routine national collections. A study of the costs of non-admitted care is required to collect data that will enable IHPA to explore cost drivers of non-admitted care.

This public consultation paper is one part of a more comprehensive consultation process that will involve stakeholders at different phases:

  1. The document sets out the key feature of the Non-admitted care costing study - the scope, study approach, data collection approach, proposed data collection and considerations for the ANACC;
  2. It poses questions in relation to each of these aspects for stakeholders to consider.

Feedback from stakeholders/stakeholder groups will help refine the design of the study so that its results can be used to inform the development of the ANACC. IHPA invites all interested parties to provide comment on the Non-admitted care costing study – data collection paper. This consultation closes on Friday, 24 May 2019.

All submissions will be published on IHPA’s website unless respondents specifically identify any sections they believe should be kept confidential due to commercial or other reasons.
